Meta- what now?

Remember the movie Ready Player One from Steven Spielberg? Well okay, if you haven’t seen it, here’s how it goes: it’s the 2045 and everything in the world has basically gone downhill. People are looking for ways to expand their daily lives and they find solace in OASIS, a computer game that can be played, physically, by billions of people at the same time. This is an example of the Metaverse. But, really, the Metaverse is much, much more.

The Metaverse as a successor to the Internet, a term made up by Neal Stephenson, is a virtual place which you can enter via the internet. It’s Meta (previously Facebook), it’s Fortnite, it’s Second Life, it’s augmented reality in which people can interact with each other via avatars. Yes, this is what the Metaverse looks like right now. But what if you can combine virtual reality, augmented reality, live streaming, social networking, selling NFT’s, online shopping, artificial intelligence, wearable tech, gaming and haute couture with 5G and more?

Now..That’s when things get really exciting.

Yes, the next phase of the Metaverse might mean that you have a virtual space in which you (your avatar) can virtually chill, watch live streams, show off your NFTs, speak and move around. Imagine being able to ride a horse in games such as Ghost of Tsushima or Red Dead Redemption? That would be a-ma-zing, right? Being able to actually pick up things in this virtual world comes really close to what Spielberg has created in his movie. Though, the most important difference compared to traditional content is that you can be the owner of all in-metaverse items. A digital piece of land, a car, haute couture or even a cool chopper (Get to the choppa!): it really belongs to you.

And — this is where it get’s even more interesting — you can view, earn and trade these items on NFT-platforms, such as FIRST. Pretty snazzy if you ask us.

So what’s next for the Metaverse and NFTs?

Well, we are not quite where we need to be. Companies such as Meta and Decentraland have already started with creating methods to enter the Metaverse, with incentives such as virtual casino’s and Horizon Workrooms. So yes, it might just become a multi-billion industry. And, with COVID still restricting people’s lives and is not likely to go away anytime soon, we all might soon need a place to escape to as well. This essence of the power behind NFTs and the metaverse is why we created first, to take the largest entertainment industry which is games and online streaming to the next level. With no start or end, no fixed amount of people that can ‘be’ in the Metaverse at the same time and no restrictions, we’ll be able to watch cool live streams while playing games and earning epic NFTs and also engaging in the Metaverse pretty soon.

FIRST, be captivated by the moment.
